A permanent EU civil servant appointed under the Staff Regulations, as opposed to a Temporary Agent, Contract Agent or Seconded National Expert. Officials are placed in the AD (Administrator) or AST (Assistant) function group and follow the pension, taxation and career rules set out directly in the Staff Regulations.
